On the evening of August 13, at the Parents Meeting for New Students of Hangzhou Middle School, Vigorous Asian Games Day & Advancing Zhejiang Tide specially created and performed by Student Wang Yuran for Hangzhou Asian Games was impassioned, and the lecture hall burst into thunderous applause.

Wang Yuran spent a lot of efforts to better “talk about the Asian Games”. After about two weeks of study, she was familiar with the Asian Games. During the process, she learned about the efforts made by Hangzhou in greeting and preparing for the Asian Games and felt the atmosphere of national fitness. This made her look forward to becoming a volunteer for the Asian Games next year, participating in and contributing to the Asian Games.

In order to greet the Asian Games, Hangzhou Middle School organized and attended a series of activities related to the Asian Games. The students of Hangzhou Middle School used the language to tell the Asian Games at the International Bilingual Speech, showed the Asian Games with their elegant demeanor at the Etiquette Contest for the Asian Games, ignited the Asian Games with sports in the school basketball team and other sports teams, and experienced the Asian Games in various inquiry-based learning activities for the Asian Games. The children used their youth to write the stories about themselves and the Asian Games, making the Asian Games enter the campus wonderfully.

With the construction of Hangzhou Urban Section of Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway to be completed soon, the whole line of the expressway is expected to meet the conditions for being open to traffic by the end of September. After the opening, this line will connect Linping New City, Hangzhoudong Station Hub, Qianjiang New City, Qianjiang Century City (Asian Games Village) and Xiaoshan Airport to provide a fast road for the people in East Hangzhou to enter and leave the city.

In addition, Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport Expansion Project (Phase III) will be completed and put into operation soon. Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport will be the second largest aviation hub in East China, second only to Pudong International Airport.

Hangzhouxi Station Hub is in the preparation stage at present. The station building decoration and fitment have entered the closing phase, and the construction of the main power supply project has been completed so far. Huzhou-Hangzhou Section of Hefei-Hangzhou High-speed Rail, which passes by Hangzhouxi Station, has completed the construction of the main structure of the cloud gate on the south side of the station.

The draft of Overall Urban Design of Hangzhou (Supplemented and Improved) released on August 15 shows the townscape and layout of Hangzhou featured by “five lakes, four waterways, one surging river, two green mountains partly stretching into the city, three converged axes in Qiantang, and ten scenic spots across the city”, and enables you to appreciate the beauty of Hangzhou visually through images.

The design shows the landscape of the city featured by five lakes (West Lake, Xianghu Lake, Nanhu Lake, Qingshan Lake and Yangbei Lake) with green mountains.

Three major townscape centers, namely the Traditional Townscape Center, the Modern Townscape Center and the Sci-tech Townscape Center, feature prosperous urban life and sci-tech innovation. The Traditional Townscape Center refers to the old urban area of Hangzhou characterized by Elegant Qiantang and Amazing Song Culture. The Modern Townscape Center that covers Qianjiang New City and Qianjiang Century City shows the prosperous business of the city. Hangzhou West Science and Innovation Corridor, as the Sci-tech Townscape Center, redoubles efforts to build a smart city based on the spirit of innovation.

In view of straight summer heat recently, office buildings and shopping malls in Qianjiang New City have successively taken various measures to reduce energy consumption, saving electric power of 4,000 kWh per day.

Hangzhou Power Supply Corporation switches air conditioners to frequency conversion mode and turns up the AC temperature by 11℃ to save energy, power and cost. Ping’an Financial Center adopts “power saving mode” and shuts down half of the air conditioners, with AC energy consumption reduced by 60%. In addition to the reduction of energy consumption, shopping malls and other public places are subject to physical cooling by spraying water on curtain walls. Besides, radar sensing energy efficient lights are introduced to save energy, while power saving mode is adopted in many office buildings and shopping malls in Hangzhou. Moreover, SGCC Hangzhou Power Supply Corporation provides scientific guidance on power utilization by means of SMS and door-to-door services to ensure efficient and orderly energy conservation.

This year, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai had little rain in the rainy season due to the shift of plum rain zone as a result of abnormal subtropical high, which was to blame for continuous high temperature and abnormal typhoon activities. On August 12, the National Meteorological Center of CMA issued the first state-level red alert for high temperature of up to 40℃ and over. High temperature may become a normal phenomenon in the future due to global warming and great impact of greenhouse gases.

Many regions provide higher subsidies for outdoor workers who are subjected to higher risk in high temperature. Hangzhou and other cities have also launched artificial rainfall for several times. However, appropriate clouds are necessary to make rain; that is to say, it needs certain weather conditions to make rain in high temperature even if the cost is not a question. Therefore, in order to fundamentally solve the problem of high temperature, we need to protect the environment to effectively curb the trend of global warming.

Yesterday, the highest temperature of Hangzhou hit 40.9℃, a record high in this summer. Yesterday afternoon, Dingan Road Community of Qingbo Sub-district of Shangcheng District cooperated with relevant units under the jurisdiction of the district to provide herbal tea, mung bean soup, lemonade and other heat-relieving drinks for the workers engaged in old residential community renovation projects of Houshi Street as well as other outdoor workers in the neighborhood to send careand offerthe logistical support in the combat against the high temperature in the scorching summer.

The 12-hour continuous observation of renovated Hangzhou Zhonghe Flyover after it was open to traffic at 10:00 am on August 10 showed that 4 off-ramps were clear, while the east-to-south on-ramp was congested sometimes.

Some ramps are open during designated hours in order to control the vehicle traffic. The east-to-south on-ramp is closed from 7:00 am to 10:00 am on working days. Orderly traffic control is conducted to ensure smooth transport and make more citizens enjoy the convenience of traffic facilities.
