Classy Hangzhouxi Station

The second “delegation of observers”, composed of provincial, municipal and district party representatives and enterprise representatives, was shown around Hangzhouxi Railway Station Hub yesterday. Many of them were amazed at the tremendous change from a mere construction site to the magnificent building replete with modern technologies in a spacing of only three years.

According to the sources, Hangzhouxi Railway Station plans to set up a special area at the 6m mezzanine of the station building for the display of cultural relics excavated during its construction. “This is what makes Hangzhouxi Railway Station become a unique hub that meets citizens’ demands for transportation and displays cultural relics which connect the past of the station with the future,” said the observers.

After careful inspection, observers also proposed suggestions for improvement in many details. After simulating a wheelchair user by lowering down her body, Xu Qin, a member of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress, suggested that the height of the mirrors of the accessible toilets need to be adjusted. Wu Haiwei, the director of the Comprehensive Transportation Research Department of Hangzhou Comprehensive Transport Research Center, proposed that the most convenient parking spaces shall be reserved for online ride-hailing cabs due to its great popularity to ensure rapid diversion of the passengers. Wu Zheng, the director of Zhejiang Branch of the Design Institute of China Railway Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd., indicated that all the route signs related to Hangzhouxi Railway Station should be well connected so that passengers who were unfamiliar with this station could fully understand the purpose of the transport facilities (such as the escalator).

The suggestions of the delegation of observers were recorded and will be referred to for the further improvement of Hangzhouxi Railway Station In addition, to ensure a convenient, accurate and fast access to the waiting area and train boarding for passengers, Hangzhouxi Railway Station is preparing a digital “Instruction for Use” to give answers to such questions as how to go there, where to wait and where to grab a meal.

Immediate retail becomes new fashion at the Mid-autumn Festival

The data of a take-out service platform show that Hangzhou citizens’ attention for moon cakes soars as the Mid-autumn Festival is approaching, with search volume for “moon cake” increased by a factor of 18 and orders for moon cakes more than tripled compared to the same time last year.

The details of the orders show that Hangzhou citizens prefer three traditional stuffing, namely salty egg yolk, sweet bean paste and five nuts. Time-honored brands are also favored by merchants. With regard to the package, gift box and simple package are equally popular.

This year’s online consumption is much higher than that of previous years, mainly due to two reasons: 1) Consumers may enjoy discount by purchasing online; 2) Take-out service platforms provide faster and better services. According to many young consumers, online purchasing is faster and more convenient than the traditional online channels. Consumers can not only enjoy fresher moon cakes, but can also place orders to the taste preference of family members and friends.

Immediate retail has been different from traditional commodity sales mode and can meet young consumers’ demand for faster delivery of the commodities.

An 89-year-old roller skating idol in Hangzhou

A group of elderly people wearing roller skates slide in a beautiful arc on the ground in Hangzhou West Lake Third Park every Thursday morning. Among them, the most attractive one is 89-year-old Xu Guoming labeled as “Roller Skating Youth” with white hair.

Xu Guoming has been keen on roller skating since he was a child. After his retirement, he resumes this sport and has insisted on it for more than 40 years. The nearly-90-year-old man’s face is always with a brilliant smile, regardless of the difficulty movements like the “mini-train” sliding movement which features twist and turn forwards and backwards, double skating of “Flying Side by Side” together with his teammates, or sliding while twisting the neck.

In addition to health and happiness, Xu Guoming is the oldest member in the West Lake Elderly Roller Skating Team, and one of founders. His love for roller skating has infected the team members, and many of them regard him as an idol. Luo Chenfa, the current captain, said: “89-year-old Xu Guoming is still willing to participate in roller skating, and his spirit has encouraged more people to do so.”

Besides Thursdays, the West Lake Elderly Roller Skating Team is active in the region of the West Lake Third Park every day, attends the national fitness and greets Hangzhou Asian Games in their own way to convey the charm of roller skating to more people. From this group of “wind-chasing old boys”, we can see that, roller skating is not just a sport, and it is also the challenging spirit that goes beyond oneself and sets no limits in life.

Enjoy this movie-level event in Hangzhou

In recent days, “Exciting Hangzhou” ICBC Cup National Gymnastics Championships 2022 has been in full swing, bringing the strength & beauty sports competition to spectators. The splendid sports show in Huanglong Sports Centre Gymnasium created one climax after another for the on-site atmosphere.

The light show in the warm-up link lit up the arena. When the newly-added spectator interaction link appeared in the large funnel-shaped screen, everyone proactively stood up to carry out interaction.

This large funnel-shaped screen is designed by referring to the most beautiful standard venue of NBA, adopting the integrated rectangular & oval funnel-shaped design, with no gaps or blind angles in 360 degrees, which can meet the traditional split screen function, achieve the full-screen playing, create better competition atmosphere, and improve the appreciation and entertainment of the event.

One hundred sets of combined light balls around the funnel-shaped screen are kinetic energy balls, which can fluctuate and change colors with the music. This kind of kinetic energy balls can only be found in the Olympics and individual world champions, described as high-end design.

In addition, the awarding link also specially set up the athletes’ exclusive appearance pictures to show the elegant demeanor of champions and render the sense of ceremony of the game.

The sports display team hopes that, the scene is full of atmosphere through a series of details, and the competition information is conveyed to spectators from different perspectives and in various ways, to create the passionate atmosphere and integrate the competitive gymnastics into the spectators in the form of the stage. This movie-level viewing experience makes the competition popular and attracts more people to understand and participate in gymnastics.

Prosperity for All: Digital economy becomes accelerator for economic growth

Zhejiang Province is China’s demonstration zone for achieving common prosperity. Its gross domestic product level has been doubled in the past ten years, and ranked fourth in the country in 2021. In another episode of our special series “Decoding the Common Prosperity,” our reporter Wu Bin takes a look at how digitization is boosting economic growth in the province.

WU BIN Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province “To reach common prosperity, the first step is to generate more wealth. To put it simply, make the figurative pie larger. Zhejiang’s economic pie has doubled in the past ten years. What’s the secret behind this?”

In ten years’ time, Zhejiang’s GDP has increased from 3.44 trillion yuan in 2012 to 7.35 trillion yuan in 2021.

The larger pie has laid a solid foundation for common prosperity for all people, and digital economy has undoubtedly been Zhejiang’s main economic pillar.

In 2017, Zhejiang initiated the digital economy “Project No. 1” and since then, digital tools have become the main engine for its economy, taking up almost half of the province’s GDP last year.

To find out how digital tools are helping the province to increase more wealth, I went to a lift factory that has gone through some major transformations under the government’s digital initiative.

WU BIN Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province “Here I am in a factory in Hangzhou, the provincial capital. Looking around, not one worker can be seen. Everything is automated.”

The lift factory is one of the 32 so-called “future factories” in Zhejiang Province. To tell us why it’s called “future factory,” XIOLIFT’s vice president of Factory Operation asked me to stand in front of a big screen.

“This is our digital twin factory. At first, I had to have five or six workers to adjust the parameters of different equipment. I don’t need to do that anymore. Now, I just need to come to the digital twin factory, press a button and everything is quickly adjusted.”

Digital tools have made it easier to manage the machines in the real factory. According to Feng, it only takes a minimum of two minutes to make an elevator. And for customized needs, only five working days.

FENG TIEYING Vice President, Factory Operation XIOLIFT “We have been using more advanced information and manufacturing technologies in the past few years. We now have a lot of automatic and intelligent production lines. The factory efficiency has also increased by 50 percent.”

With an annual growth rate of around 30 percent, it has become the top company of its kind in the country.

Like XIOLIFT, digitization has also boosted the industry upgrading of many other manufacturers in Zhejiang.

YE JIANSONG Deputy Director Economy and Information Technology Department of Zhejiang “In recent years, Zhejiang has embarked on an industrial digitization path to become a demonstration zone for the integrated development of the industrial Internet in the Yangtze River Delta. Its industrial digitization index has ranked first in the country for three consecutive years.”

WU BIN Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province “China’s digital path can be traced back to over two decades ago. In the early 2000s, when President Xi Jinping worked as a government leader in Fujian and Zhejiang, he promoted digital economy in both provinces.”

Since he became president in 2012, President Xi has made the development of digital economy a national strategy.

And now digitization has become an important accelerator for the country’s economic growth. In Zhejiang’s vast rural sector, digital tools are also helping generate more wealth for farmers.

West Zhejiang’s Huzhou City is quite famous for its sheep.

In an intelligent farmland in Lvshan County, we met Lv Chenchen, a college graduate who chose to go back to the countryside, and become a technician for raising sheep.

Reporter: I see that every sheep has a thing like this on its ear. What is this for?

“This is an electronic ear tag, like an ID card, which is with them for their whole life. After scanning the electronic ear tag, you can see the birth information. So, we can pair up the mother and her lambs.”

In the control room, we see how a digital platform is helping Lv to manage over 50,000 sheep.

This is something many farmers could never imagine before.

LV CHENCHEN Technician, Tianxia Husbandry “They say they could never imagine this. Working here is much more efficient and the labor cost is lower. Raising sheep has become easier.”

With an estimated output value of around 460 million yuan, the sheep industry now takes up 60 percent of the county’s rural sector.

Digitization is also helping farmers. And more agricultural producers in Huzhou are using digital tools to expand and sell.

CHEN HAO Secretary, Huzhou Municipal CPC Committee “Over the years, we have boosted the comprehensive revitalization and common prosperity of the countryside with digital reform. As part of the ’14th Five-Year Plan,’ we will build 100 high-standard ‘future farms’ and promote the comprehensive transformation and upgrading of 191 breeding bases.”

Apart from manufacturing and agriculture, digitization is also accelerating growth in other sectors. The province’s digitization level in the manufacturing, service, and agricultural industries ranked first in the country in 2021.

It is expected to double its digital economy added value from 3.57 trillion to seven trillion yuan by 2027.

From bustling cities to vast countryside, from manufacturing to service industry, the digital economy is accelerating Zhejiang’s economic growth, and paving its path to common prosperity.

Latest figures from the customs authorities in East China’s Zhejiang province show that the province’s imports and exports were up 19.5 percent year-on-year in the first seven months of 2022, and its growth contribution rate was the highest in the country. Zhejiang has recorded positive growth in imports and exports for 29 consecutive months, since March 2020.

According to statistics, the previous four business charter flights from Ningbo brought back orders exceeding $800 million in value. Over the past few months, Zhejiang has formed a complete business charter workflow which is being promoted nationwide. In the near future, more than 10 charter flights will depart from Jiaxing, Yiwu and other places in Zhejiang.

This summer, the first overseas submarket of Yiwu market – Dubai Yiwu China Commodity City, was officially put into operation. Overseas buyers who were unable to reach Yiwu due to the epidemic were to view and order products at their doorstep. The market, which has a customer base of nearly 1 billion people in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and other places, will bring more business opportunities to Zhejiang’s foreign trade.

In addition to arranging chartered business flights and organizing overseas trade exhibitions, authorities in Zhejiang have launched an action plan for the cultivation of foreign trade entities, and aim to have an additional 20,000 companies with foreign trade achievements by the end of 2025.
